College football picks – Who is overrated?

Coming into each year, smart handicappers will recognize that some teams are overrated. You don’t want to keep throwing down bets on teams that are so clearly overrated by the public. The fact of the matter is that you don’t want to be following the public down what will be a difficult path. With that being said, it can sometimes be difficult to come up with a read on which team is going to be underrated and which ones will be vastly overrated. In general, there are some rules that will apply and help you notice these things before you make any major mistakes.

For one, you want to look away from those teams that won championships the year before. Sure, they might be successful in covering spreads once again, but it is entirely possible that you will pay a major tax on each bet. The lines will be inflated because the public will be looking hard at those teams. Likewise, you might want to avoid making any bets on those squads that are overly hyped by the national sports networks. If the public is on a team, you will have a hard time finding value. Making good college football picks is all about value, so keep that in mind.

College football and Thursday night dogs

There are some times when college football picks become so popular that they lose their value. As a college football handicapper, you have to be on the lookout for these things. Trends can run their course and when the betting public jumps on board, they can cease to be valuable. So what do we make of Thursday night home underdogs? Are they still an underrated commodity in the college football betting world?

It still appears as if the betting public hasn’t caught on to this trend in college football handicapping. They are still laying out big money on road favorites during the week, ignoring reams of data that indicate a solid trend. This is probably because most people just don’t take the time to consider all of the relevant factors. The travel, inconvenience, and other factors are all tough to quantify, but they are real. When making college football picks this season and going forward, chances are good that the Thursday night dogs will remain a solid play. This is not true across the board for every single game, but it will ring true in most situations where the public is loading up on the wrong side.

Rules & how they affect Making College Football Picks

With college football season here, it’s time to come up with some rules for making money. Making college football picks is not an easy thing, and most handicappers fail miserably over the long run. What are some things you better not forget when you are making college football picks this year? In the beginning, you need to start by learning the ins and outs of line movements. Smart, sharp bettors like to stay on the other side of the poor betting public, and it makes sense if you really put some thought into your approach.

When making college football picks, look for those times when it looks as if things are too good to be true. Is a game really juicy? Does it appear that a team will cover easily? Nothing is easy when making college football picks, so don’t expect it to be for you. If something looks great and the public is all over that side, then you need to be asking one very important question. The question is, “What is the public missing here?” What about this game is not obvious? If you can start looking at college football picks with a critical eye, you will be much better off.

Coming up with a detailed college football betting approach

When college football season rolls around, bettors start piping up everywhere around the country. It’s like a new world again and they start throwing around money. If you are going to do this with any level of success, then you need to have an approach. Some people just make college football picks on a whim, but this is no way to win. You have to have an approach and you have to have some basic game types that you are looking for. Opportunities to find value are not all that hard to spot, but you do need to know what you are looking for.

So what is your approach? Some people look at the numbers more when making college football picks. They study the stats and understand how teams are performing right now. Some handicappers make college football picks by studying the matchups. They look at how a team matches up with another, noting the little things about each team that may or may not lead to success. This is also a great way to approach college football picks. Ultimately your style will be up to you, but it’s important that you have an approach. This will help you study games more completely and make solid picks.

Using forums to assist with college football picks

If you are a serious bettor, then you probably know all about the paid picks services. You know about touts, both good and bad, and you know that there is a lot of information out there. You might have overlooked betting forums when making college football picks, though. There are plenty of good betting forums out there, so be sure to take them into account.

What can you find at betting forums to help make your college football picks a bit more successful? For one, you will find information on teams, weather, matchups, injuries, and much more. You will read reports from people who know teams the best. Additionally, you will be able to read the insights of some handicappers who have been around the block. Should you just make college football picks because they are on a certain team? The answer is absolutely no. But you should be willing to read and consider what they have to say in order to make your own college football picks. Maybe they have noticed a certain trend that you’ve missed. Maybe they can fill in the blanks with more information on a player. You never know what you might find on these places that can make college football picks that much easier.

College football picks and line movement

When it comes to making college football picks, smart bettors know a thing or two about line movements. They take the time to study the lines and they keep track of where the lines start. If you want to win this coming fall, then your college football picks need to take line movements into account. So what should you know about line movements from the beginning? First and foremost, know that there is value in the opening line.

Over the course of a betting week, books will adjust lines and they will get tight. It will be difficult to find opportunities once the opening day passes. People making college football picks should be ready to pounce on lines as soon as they are released. This is how the big boy bettors handle things, so you should be following their lead. Smart bettors don’t wait for the oddsmakers to adjust lines. They strike while there is a point or two of opportunity hanging out there.

You should also recognize where the lines are going. If the betting public is loading up on Florida, yet the books are giving the public more points with Florida, then you might want to look the other direction. Vegas doesn’t give out free money, so your college football picks should reflect this fact.

College football picks and rule adjustments

Last season, college football underwent some huge changes. People making college football picks had to adjust to the fact that games were shorter and coaches didn’t quite understand how to manage the clock. When making college football picks, it pays to understand these highly important factors. So what do we need to know going into this season? Know that college coaches have made some adjustments and that they should be a bit more comfortable.

With college coaches being more comfortable, expect scores to rise. This won’t be a huge change, but it will probably be enough to shift things upward a few points. What this means for bettors is that your college football picks might be better placed on the over this season. Early in the year before bettors understand the changes is the best time to take advantage of this.

What other changes might be coming? College football is going to see some changes with pass interference enforcement, so teams with passing games will be dramatically improved. When making your college football picks this season, make sure you remember that. This will put the emphasis on good secondary defense and big plays will be much more prevalent this year.

Where to find free college football picks

If you are heading into this college football season blind, then you are behind the curve. There are many sources of free college football picks out there, so you would be wise to take advantage of some of them. Where you can find these free college football picks? You might start with some mainstream sources and throw in some sources that are slightly unconventional, as well. A smart handicapper will take knowledge from all different angles and combine it to make a nice betting strategy. If you want to beat the public, then this has to be your approach as well.

What can ESPN do for you? Know that a lot of their analysts aren’t any more informed than you. Every so often, you will get a nugget that you can use in your handicapping, though. Don’t rely on them exclusively for free college football picks, but try to pick up some wisdom where you can find it.

In addition to that mainstream source of free college football picks, look to internet forums. You can often use forums to find handicappers who consistently nail certain teams or conferences. Don’t hesitate to gain insight from these people, but blind following is probably not a great idea.

The Dallas Cowboys are amongst the best teams in the NFL every single season as they have some of the most talented players in the league on both sides of the football.

Ironically enough, despite already having one of the best wide receivers corps in the league, the Cowboys decided to pick arguably the best young wide receiver in the 2010 NFL Draft with the 24th overall pick.

Throughout his time with Oklahoma State, Dez Bryant made a name for himself for not only being one of the most talented wideouts in the country, but also being one of the most controversial. Despite being a problem child during his college days, Bryant did improve Oklahoma State’s odds in college football picks and chances at a playing in a bowl game.

Unfortunately, like many players will superstar talent, Bryant decided to leave school a bit early after being suspended for the majority of the 2009 season for violating one of the NCAA rules which was interacting with former Dallas Cowboys superstar Deion Sanders.
Despite missing a significant amount of time last season, Bryant was still considered amongst the best at his position in the past 2010 NFL Draft.

Even though the majority of draft picks in the first round end up in holdouts for more money come contract time, Dez Bryant quickly agreed to a five-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys worth about $11.8 million dollars with $8.5 being guaranteed.

2010 Thursday Night College Football Picks

Two trends to hold onto

If you are a smart handicapper, then you will look at some of the trends out there when making college football picks. This will provide you with the ability to analyze games just a little bit better. The first has to do with Thursday night games. What should you make of them? Understand when making college football picks that Thursday nights are death for visiting teams. For one reason or another, they just cannot seem to get it together when they hit the road during the week. This might have to do with schedule changes, travel issues, or just preparation problems. Whatever the case, fade road teams when making Thursday night college football picks.

The second trend is a Tuesday night trend. Over the last few seasons, Tuesday nights have gone under more than anything else. This probably has to do with teams being out of rhythm and squads not preparing enough during the week. Tuesday nights seem to throw offenses into a tizzy and there is often a ton of value in betting the under. Likewise, it seems as if these nationally televised games attract a lot of wild, public bettors. These people love the over, so you should take the value on the underside.
